Have A Nice Sleep

Sounds that don’t stop, for nights that don’t either. Type a mood and it follows you. Say nothing and it plays anyway.

The generator reads this list every morning and writes the winners into the loop. Nothing here is a person's job.

I'm not a doctor.

Just a guy with too much coffee in him and a domain called Have A Nice Sleep. So instead of guessing what helps, I let the requests decide, and the thing builds itself while everyone’s asleep.

Built to be left running.

The loop updates itself

The track list lives in a single file the generator rewrites from the queue, so the page gets new sounds without anyone shipping anything.

It keeps playing offline

Everything you’ve heard once is cached on your machine. Lose the connection at 3am and the sound doesn’t notice.

Controls where you are

Title, artist and playback land in your operating system’s media keys, so you can pause from the keyboard without hunting for the tab.

A timer that fades out

Set it in five-minute steps or let it run till morning. The sound tapers instead of cutting, which is the difference between waking up and not.

Hear what it made overnight.

Leave an address and I’ll send you the new sounds the generator built from the queue, roughly once a week, along with whatever the forum turns into.

Sleepmaxxers welcome.

Doctors welcome.

People who want the rain sound and zero conversation, especially welcome.

A forum’s coming.

Things people ask

Short answers, including to the ones we would rather dodge.

Where do the sounds come from?

They are made in your browser as you listen, out of filtered noise and a few low tones, rather than played from a recording. That is why the loop genuinely never repeats: there is no loop, just a generator that keeps going.

It also means nothing is downloading, so it works on a bad connection and costs you no data once the page has loaded.

What is the shared queue?

Anyone can ask for a sound, everyone sees the same list, and the most wanted ones get turned into new named mixes that appear on the page. No account needed, which does mean it relies on people not being awful.

Will it keep playing if I lock my phone?

Maybe, and we would rather admit that than guess. Browsers are aggressive about stopping audio in a backgrounded tab, and how aggressive depends on your phone and its software version.

If it stops when your screen locks, that is the browser rather than something you did wrong. Try leaving the screen on, and let us know what device you are using.

Are you doctors?

No. Not doctors, not sleep scientists, not therapists, not qualified in any of this. We are people who could not sleep, got interested in why, and started building small things to try on ourselves.

So read everything here as somebody's experiment rather than as advice. Where we mention research we have tried to describe it honestly, including the parts where the evidence is thin, but we are reading it as curious amateurs and you should treat it that way too.

If you genuinely cannot sleep, night after night, for weeks, that is worth taking to someone qualified. Insomnia is treatable and the treatment that works best is not a website.

Does any of this actually work?

Honestly, it depends on the thing and on you. Some of what is here leans on techniques with real evidence behind them, some of it is closer to a nice idea that helps because it gives your head something dull to do, and we try to say which is which on each page.

What we will not do is tell you something is clinically proven when it is not. A sleep site that oversells itself is just another thing keeping you up.

Do you collect anything about me?

There are no accounts, so there is nothing to log into and nothing tying any of this to you. Your settings, the voice you picked, how long you say you take to fall asleep, live in your own browser and never leave it.

The one exception is deliberate: if you queue a sound or leave an email address, you have sent us that on purpose, and the queue is public by design so everybody sees the same list.

What is the catch? Why is it free?

There is no catch and no paywall, mostly because there is nothing expensive to pay for. The sounds are generated in your browser rather than streamed, so there are no files to host and no licences to buy.

If that changes we will say so plainly rather than quietly putting a wall in front of something that used to be free.

Not medical advice. If you really can’t sleep, go see someone real. We just have the rain sounds.

Have a nice sleep, bro.
